Operation Limit – targeting dangerous drivers, including drink and drug drivers - has so far seen more than 600 vehicles stopped and around 40 arrests made.
Last night (9th December) Police received a report that a black Mercedes was being driven erratically that had spun before colliding with a wall before being driven off.
Our officers tracked the car down and stopped the car as the driver was about to pull onto the M6.
The driver a 25-year-old man from Lancashire was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and after failing a roadside drugs wipe. He was further arrested for possession of Class A after suspected drugs – alleged to be crack and heroin - were discovered hidden in his underwear.
The driver was released under investigation to allow police to carry out further enquiries.
We are targeting drug and drink drivers all year round.
