£100,000 in Cash seized and man charged following stop on M6

A man appeared at court today following a proactive stop on the M6 which led to the discovery of £100,000 in cash.

Officers stopped a vehicle travelling southbound on the M6 neat Southwaite Services yesterday afternoon (6 March). During enquiries officers located and seized around £100,000 cash.

Marius Iordache, aged 30, of Russet Way, Bedfordshire, was charged with a money laundering offence.

He appeared before Carlisle Magistrates Court today and was released with bail conditions ahead of a further hearing.

The seizure forms part of forms part of Operation Alliance - Cumbria Constabulary’s ongoing response to protect the county against serious and organised crime.
