Role Purpose:
The Management Accountant is responsible for producing accurate and timely financial information, supporting business decision-making, maintaining robust financial controls, and ensuring compliance with statutory and company reporting requirements across multiple group entities.
Main Duties:
- Take full responsibility for allocated company accounts from Trial Balance through to monthly management accounts.
- Assist the finance team in the preparation of monthly management accounts and reporting packs.
- Produce variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior periods.
- Support annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Process transactions accurately across multiple entities.
- Maintain accurate control accounts.
- Process sales and purchase ledgers when necessary.
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards.
- Prepare prepayments, accruals and month-end journals.
- Process payroll journals and employee expense claims.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts.
- Review and reconcile balance sheets monthly.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns.
- Process and reconcile inter-company transactions.
- Support statutory accounts preparation and external audit.
- Develop and improve financial controls and reporting processes.
- Liaise across departments to resolve queries.
- Support the wider Finance team and provide cover where required.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the role.
Technical Skills Required:
- Advanced Microsoft Excel including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP and Power Query (desirable).
- AAT Level 4, part-qualified ACCA/CIMA or qualified by experience.
- Sage 200 or similar ERP/accounting system experience.
- Strong knowledge of management accounting, VAT and month-end reporting.
- Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
Desirable Experience:
- 3–5 years' finance experience.
- Experience preparing monthly management accounts.
- Multi-entity accounting experience.
- Balance sheet reconciliations and VAT compliance.
