Voters in Penrith South will Head to the Polls on Thursday to Elect a New Town Councillor

Voters in Penrith South will go to the polls on Thursday (27th November) to choose one of three candidates to be their new town councillor.

DEACON, Alex - Liberal Democrats

HOUSTON, Mike - Reform UK

LAWSON, Kimberley Jane - The Green Party

The polling station for the by election at Penrith Cricket Club on Wetheriggs Lane will open from 7am until 10pm.

Voters will need valid ID to cast their vote

Voters are now legally required to show photo identification (ID) when voting at a polling station and will require one of the following valid ID’s to cast a vote in this by election.

You can use any of the following ad valid photo ID:

•    Passport
•    UK driving licence (full or provisional)
•    EU driving licence
•    Blue badge
•    Older person’s bus pass
•    Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
•    Biometric immigration document
•    Defence Identity Card
•    HM Armed Forces Veteran Card
•    Voter Authority Certificate
•    Anonymous Elector’s Document

You will only need to show one form of photo ID, but it needs to be the original version and not a photocopy. 

The name on your ID must be the same name you used to register to vote. If it does not, you’ll need to either register to vote again with your new details, or take a document with you to vote that proves you’ve changed your name (for example, a marriage certificate)

The candidate elected following the by election as the new Penrith South councillor will serve in the roll for just over a year until May 2027, when all town council seats are due for re-election.
