Penrith MP has Labour Whip Withdrawn after Voting Against Government

Penrith and Solway MP Marcus Campbell-Savours has been suspended from the Labour Party for rebelling against the government inheritance tax for farmers in a vote on Tuesday evening.

Markus Campbell-Savours MP was the only Labour MP to vote against the controversial change with other Labour MP’s choosing to abstain from voting.

The Penrith and Solway MP was informed earlier today by the Labour Party that the Labour Party whip had been withdrawn.

The last local MP to have the Whip withdrawn while serving as the areas MP was Rory Stewart who served out the remainder of his term as an Independent MP.

Markus Campbell-Savours will continue to serve as the Penrith and Solway MP but will now join other former Labour MP’s who have lost the party whip sitting on the other side of the house from the party he was elected as a member of in the July 2024 general election.
