National Highways Update on A66 Speed Limits and A66 Works

National Highways have given an update on the current temporary 40mph speed limit currently in place between M6 Junction 40 and Whinfell Park that National Highways have said is in place to protect both their workforce accessing sites and road users along the A66 carrying out enabling works for the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine project along with the 30mph speed limit on the A686 (Carleton Avenue) for the same safety reasons.

More to come:

Additional site accesses will be installed over the coming months, including one on the A592, south of Clifford Road and Two on the A66 Eastbound, east of Kemplay Roundabout.

National Highways also have two full overnight closure on the A66 next week between J40 and Kemplay Roundabout overnight between 8pm and 6am on both Monday 27th October and Tuesday 28TH October.

Before Christmas the current 40mph limit will be temporarily removed between M6 J40 and Kemplay roundabout ahead of the Clifton rail bridge replacement, which will require two full weekend closures of the M6 in early January.
